Social Media

Today, nearly everyone uses social media to communicate and share information. This is true not only with family and friends but also effectively expresses support or opposition for an issue.

Social media is a fantastic way to communicate short messages: reminders to vote on behalf of supported legislation, alerting them that you are watching their efforts and words, a thank you for a meeting, etc. Equally valuable is liking and sharing posts from other supporters of our issues.

Like other forms of communication, it is essential to remain polite, positive, and knowledgeable when communicating on any issue. This is particularly true when using social media, as many others will likely see your communication. While it is easy to rally support by posting a strong graphic that clearly communicates a point that allows others to share or simply to like, it is just as easy to see rude and misinformed posts hurt a position.

What makes social media so compelling is the very public nature of communication. Anything you post on a public page will be visible to everyone who visits it. So please, always take the time to review your post and never include derogatory or negative language.

We currently use Facebook, X and Instagram, but there are many other platforms used by elected officials or organizations that we work with.

While letters must stay within one page, social media posts should remain within 3 sentences. However, the shorter the better, especially if you can include photos or other visual aids.

The most effective campaign would combine all the ways to communicate.
