Although officially launched in 2022, Senior Citizen’s Lobby’s team has decades of experience in issues protecting the interest of America’s senior citizens.  From social security to tax reform to aging in place, we have fought on behalf of economic reforms that benefit the lives of all seniors.  With our rebrand, we commit to arming our supporters with the tools to fight for change themselves by helping our supporters become citizen activists.  For far too long, we have hoped our elected officials would do the right thing and honor the promise to protect the financial security of senior citizens.  No more; starting now, we all need to take an active role in protecting social security.  

Chairman Arthur J. Altmeyer identified several goals of social security in 1945. His statement is as true today as it was then.  “The primary goal of social security is to keep American families from becoming destitute – in health or the essentials of life.  A program that will ensure that every family has enough to live on in times of adversity.  By supporting a comprehensive social insurance system, all employers will match their employee’s contributions.  These monies will be kept in a fund from which benefits are paid.  These benefits will be based on his earnings and will protect him when unemployment, sickness, old age, or death strikes.”  

“And–at this point–let me say again, we only hope to provide basic minimum benefits. Anybody who wants more than social insurance can buy from private insurance companies, or he can build up his own resources through savings or in other ways. But we want a floor under the American standard of living–a floor below which nobody can ever fall.”
